OH WORD?

The 13 Can’t-Miss Works at Christie’s Outsider and Vernacular Art Auction

Next week, Christie’s auction house in New York City will hold its annual Outsider Art auction. Like every other year, it’s a who’s who of brilliant outsider artists you know and love. This Tuesday, January 18th, will be no different, bringing a treasure trove of spectacular artwork by self-taught artists that could be yours if you have deep pockets.

Compiled is a list of artworks by artists like Bill Traylor, Henry Darger, Nellie Mae Rowe, and Clementine Hunter, to name a few. While I would love to own and display every artwork at this here auction, these works stand out to me above the rest. Somehow simultaneously quintessential to that artist’s oeuvre and also uniquely out there. These works are the ones to keep your eyes on.

All artworks listed below are in no particular order with their title, year made, and materials used to create—an estimate of worth per Christie’s plus a run down of the previous auction’s highest price realised for each artist.
