“Home Is Where the Hurt Is” (May 19 – June 30) features the works of artists from Manila City Jail male dorm, created during art rehabilitation sessions conducted at the prison. Whilst the notion of “home” embodies warmth, love, and a sense of belonging; for others, home can be a battleground of neglect, abuse, or emotional turmoil.

Through art therapy, group dialogue, and community engagement, the artists of Manila City Jail confront the complexities of home-recognising that whilst home may have been a source of pain, it can also become a canvas for resilience, growth, and transformation.
Since its inception in 2022, Laya Digital Curators (LDC) has been running weekly art and music programmes in Manila City Jail men’s dorm. The sessions facilitate the rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and provide them with a channel for healing and the possibility of an alternative livelihood through art.
With the participation of artist friends, Laya Digital Curators shed light on the brilliance of the marginalised, thereby challenging societal stigmas and promoting inclusivity within the art community.
