For the first time ever, the FolkArtwork Collective will be setting up shop at the nation’s largest nonprofit building for creative workspaces, Mainframe Studios in Des Moines, Iowa.
My good friend, the extremely talented and incredibly kind Ashley Mary as kindly opened her studio doors and welcomed the artworks of Reneehsa Mccoy and Jackie Bradshaw to be included in the First Friday event on December 5th from 5pm-8pm.
Every first Friday of the month, the 220 artists and creatives that occupy Mainframe Studios in downtown Des Moines open their doors to a one of a kind event to mingle and purchase artwork from some of the most wonderful artists in Iowa.

I have long been a fan of Ashley’s work. And likewise, Ashley had been a fan of Reneesha and Jackies, so much so that she purchased works last year at the “Faces In The Crowd” FolkArtwork group show. Which is when and where we both realized we now lived in the same city.
Ashley Mary is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer, and muralist with an MA in Graphic/Web Design from MCAD. She currently splits her time living between Minneapolis, Minnesota and Des Moines, Iowa. Inspired by childhood and childlike expression – spontaneous, textured, playful. Ashley feels most connected to her process when surprises happen: the best parts being unplanned, an outcome of holding loosely and controlling less. In turn, her art becomes a visual mantra for the kind of life I hope to practice. (AshleyMary.com)
I am really excited to be a part of Mainframe Studios’ First Friday event and be sharing the space with Ashley. Come out, say hi, purchase some art and support living artists — we’ll make it worth your while.
Mainframe Studios is located at 900 Keosauqua Way, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
