“All These Folks”, A SAGE Studio & Gallery and FolkArtwork Collaboration In Austin, Texas

I’ve done a lot of cool things as President/CEO of FolkArtwork, but this is by far the coolest.

This summer, the FolkArtwork Collective artists are teaming up with artists from SAGE Studio & Gallery, a progressive art studio in Austin, Texas to collaborate on an exhibit of artwork featuring some of our favorite artists, favorite artists.

Curator’s Statement:

Seven years ago, I started the Instagram account @folkartwork, not knowing where it would take me. All I knew was I wanted to know everything about the world of self-taught and outsider art. In that time, I’ve discovered some of my favorite artists in the world and met some of the kindest and most passionate people in the field. Which is why I’m over the moon to be working with everyone involved in “All These Folks”. After my long-overdue first visit to SAGE Studio & Gallery in Austin, Texas, I found myself on a long drive back to the Midwest with an invitation from Katie Stahl and Lucy Gross to collaborate on a show, and fond memories of meeting the artists working at SAGE. I couldn’t help but think of the piece of art I just purchased by the talented Henry McDonald—a Lee Godie-inspired artwork that brings me as much joy as you’ll find in Henry, which is a lot! From this came, “All These Folks”, a celebration of the artists we’ve all come to love and respect on the @folkartwork account, and the incredibly talented artists creating their own artistic journey both at SAGE in Austin, Texas, and the FolkArtwork Collective artists from around the world in Canada, London, New York, Washington D.C. and Texas.

Not only will you discover new original artwork by contemporary self-taught, visionary, folk, and outsider artists, but you’ll learn about the artists they know and love. “All These Folks” is an exhibit in collaboration with SAGE Studio & Gallery and FolkArtwork, featuring artists Montrel Beverly, Rick Fleming, Henry McDonald, and Molly Hale from SAGE and Esteban Whiteside, Mike Combs, Jackie Bradshaw, Linda DiLeva, and Sarah Lee of the FolkArtwork Collective.
